Garbage to Gorgeous Episode #5: DIY Candle Jar Makeover

I've had some fun knobs from Hobby Lobby for a while now and I've had some empty candle jars - it was time to get them together!  I am using them to organize buttons in my craft room, but think for a bathroom (Q-tips, cotton balls, etc.).  Or decorate one as part of a gift and add homemade bath salts!

You will need:
-  Empty candle jars
-  Candlesticks
-  Acrylic paint
-  Drawer pulls/knobs
-  Glue - anything at adheres to glass (E6000, Super Glue Glue All, etc.)
-  Drill or rotary tool
-  WD 40 to clean the candle jars, if you haven't cleaned them already
-  Spray paint or primer
-  Sandpaper

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Clean the candle jar.  I find WD40 cleans the wax out and takes off the labels beautifully!  Once everything is removed, use some glass cleaner for a final clean up.
2.  Drill a whole in the middle of the lid.  If you want to find the center, watch the video for a little trick to find it!
3.  Lightly sand the lid.  You want to sand it just enough to give the paint a surface it can adhere to.
4.  Paint whatever color you want to the lid.  This will take a minimum of two coats.
5.  Paint the candlestick.  This will also take multiple coats.  If you are using a spray paint that will adhere to the glass, then you don't need a primer.  However, if you are going to use the acrylic paint, then you must first spray on a primer.  Otherwise, the paint will scrape right off.
6.  Glue the candlestick onto the bottom of the glass jar.
7.  Attach your decorative knob to the lid.
8.  Let everything dry and set and now you have a beautiful decorative jar!  What would have ended up in a landfill just found a new place in my home!

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Crafting!
