DIY: How To Make Abstract Resin Pour Art Coasters | Another Coaster Friday | Craft Klatch

We've made some abstract resin canvases, but some of you have mentioned being intimidated by jumping in on a large piece.  Luckily, you can try doing it on a smaller scale, by experimenting on coaster sized projects!

The links below help support this channel,  as I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

You will need:
Coaster mold:  http://amzn.to/2mycyi1
Resin:  http://amzn.to/2mwRS9n
or FastCast:  http://amzn.to/2nJibdD
Pigments
Yellow:  http://amzn.to/2mycMFT
Blue:  http://amzn.to/2mydHGw
Purple:  http://amzn.to/2nJ6ofk

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Mix one ounce of resin.  Depending on which resin you use, you can use a resin the cures white, or you can use a clear resin and add white pigment.
2.  Pour the mixed resin into the coaster mold.  Pop the bubbles and let it cure a minimum of 12 hours.
3.  Remove the coaster from the mold.
4.  Place it on a raised surface and mix two ounces of resin.
5.  Split the resin into three cups.
6.  Choose your pigment colors and add them to the resin.  Mix well.
7.  Pour the different colors on your elevated coaster.  It may spill over the edges, but it may not.
8.  Pop the bubbles and allow to cure.

That's it!  Now you have a small abstract resin art piece!

DIY: How to Make Polymer Clay Chocolate Chip Cookie Coasters | Craft Klatch Another Coaster Friday |

Make chocolate chip cookie coasters to wow your friends and family!  It's simple with some polymer clay!

You will need:
-  Polymer clay (latte):  http://amzn.to/2lY2geX
-  Polymer clay (burnt umber):  http://amzn.to/2mWTMUI
-  Pastels:  http://amzn.to/2npYXKw
-  Stencil brush:  http://amzn.to/2n76BfF

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Use a half of a package of clay per cookie.  Break off half of the package of the latte or similar color and condition it.  Conditioning it means all you have to do is squish it and squeeze it in your hand until it gets warm and easy to mold.
2.  Once you have it molded, you can squish it into a cookie shape.  I work on parchment paper.  You want to have the cookies be somewhat flat, so a cup can sit on it, without falling over or sliding off.
3.  Take some of the dark brown polymer clay and roll small pieces into little balls and squish them down onto the cookie. Those are the chocolate chips.  You want them to be pretty flat, so they don't make a cup or glass sit uneven on your coaster.
4.  Once you have the chocolate chips in place, you can use an old toothbrush or paint brush to create a texture on the cookies, which also removes your finger prints.
5.  Scrap a small amount of pastels in a blue and a rust color into a little cup.  Then, take a dry paint brush, dip it into the pastels and give the cookie a baked look.
6.  Do the same with as many cookies as you want to make.  Then, bake them according to the directions on your clay package.

That's it!  Once they have cooled, you can start using them!

Resin Easter Chick Coasters | Resin Project | Another Coaster Friday | Craft Klatch | How To

Get ready to make a cute Easter coaster, with little chicks and glitter!

You will need:
Coaster mold:  http://amzn.to/2mptda4
Green glitter - I used green glitter flakes and then s little bit of green chunky glitter
Wood chick stickers:  I found them at Michaels

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Mix one ounce of resin, according to the package directions.
2.  Mix in the glitter flakes and a little bit of the green chunky glitter.
3.  Pour it into the mold.  Pop bubbles and allow it to cure.
4.  Once cured, you can stick the little chicks onto the resin.  I will suggest that you add some glue because I had one pop up on me.  I little crazy glue behind it will do the trick.
5.  Once the glue has dried, mix one maybe two ounces of resin and pour it over the chicks.
6.  Pop bubbles with your lighter and allow it to cure.  Because the chicks have a space between the resin and the actual wood, there will be more bubbles than usual, so just keep an extra eye on it.

Once cured, you have a super cute Easter coaster!

Easy Bead Drink Coaster | DIY Project | Another Coaster Friday | Craft Klatch | How To

I thought I would try something a little different this week.  I used small glass beads to make a coaster.  I think it turned out great!  Beads are beautiful!

You will need:

-  Cork rounds:  http://amzn.to/2lRbzx3

-  Glass seed beads:  http://amzn.to/2lnt0Eu

-  Hot glue:  http://amzn.to/2lnH6Gh
-  Ultimate glue:  http://amzn.to/2lR9fWI
-  Fishing line:  http://amzn.to/2kOVvI0

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1. String beads onto the fishing line.  The amount you need will depend on the size of your beads and the size of your cork round.  I needed roughly 74 inches.
2.  Knot both ends, so the beads don't fall off.
3.  Using a combination of hot glue and Ultimate glue, you will glue the beads onto the cork round.  Start with a small bit of hot glue in the center of the cork round and place one end of the bead string into the hot glue and let it cool.
4. Once cooled, spread the other glue around cork round, a little bit at a time.
5.  Keep winding it around itself and adding glue.  The hot glue will hold the beads in place, while the other glue dries and creates a stronger bond.
6.  When you are done, be sure to allow the glue to dry before you snip the end (if needed).
7.  If you have a gap in the very middle, then just glue a couple of loose beads in the middle.
8.  I placed a piece of parchment paper on it and put a book on top, while it dried.  Cork rounds can sometimes begin to curl, while they dry.  The book kept it nice and flat.

That's it!  Now you have a coaster that can with stand your coffee or tea cup as well.

Thanks for stopping by!  Remember:  Life's too short not to shimmer, so grab your glue gun and your glitter!™  Stay safe!

DIY My Little Pony Drink Coasters ~ Another Coaster Friday ~ Craft Klatch ~ How To

Today's Another Coaster Friday is a My Little Pony coaster, including Pinkie Pie!  Watch the craft tutorial to see how I made them with temporary tattoos, gem rings and a puzzle.

Items I used:
Coaster mold:  http://amzn.to/2anrjT6
Resin (Fast Cast):  http://amzn.to/2aNORP5
Resin (Easy Cast):  http://amzn.to/2ardcaJ
Temporary tattoos:  http://amzn.to/2b0Jvjj
Temporary tattoos:  http://amzn.to/2b0JgVk
Rings:  http://amzn.to/2aA8SZJ
Puzzle:  http://amzn.to/2aDtnVO
Ultimate glue:  http://amzn.to/2aoMB2w
Mod Podge:  http://amzn.to/2aAqDVo

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
For the puzzle coaster:
This happened to fail for me, but it doesn't have to for you!
1.  Put your puzzle together.
2.  Paint on four layers (let it dry between layers) of the Mod Podge to seal and preserve it.  That means, four layers on the top and four on the bottom.  Allow to completely dry.
3.  Mix resin according to the package directions.  Make sure it is clear curing resin, like Easy Cast.  You will need at least 2 ounces.
4.  Dome the top of the puzzle and try not to let it run over the edges.
5.  Pop bubbles with lighter and allow to cure.

For the temporary tattoo coaster:
1.  Pour one ounce of resin into the coaster mold.  I used the Fast Cast because it is fast and I wanted a white background.  You can absolutely use the Easy Cast, but add the white pigment.
2.  Once cured, take your tattoo and remove the plastic protective piece.
3.  Place the tattoo side of the tattoo down on the cured resin and gently rub it down.
4.  Using a wet paper towel, or a wet wipe, with a little added water, dampen the paper backing of the tattoo.  The tattoo should then adhere itself onto the coaster.
5.  We need to let it dry, so I mixed some glitter with Mod Podge and painted it around the tattoo and let everything completely dry.
6.  Once dry, add a layer of clear resin, pop bubbles and allow to cure.

Ring coaster:
1.  Mix one ounce of resin.  I used the Fast Cast, but you could easily use the Easy Cast, with added white pigment.
2.  Pour it into the mold.
3.  Sprinkle glitter onto it, while it is still wet.  I swirled it around, since I accidentally poured too much on it.  Let it cure.
4.  Cut the backs of the rings off and glue them onto the cured resin.
5.  Using a clear drying glue and a skewer stick, add glue to the inside edges of the rings, so the resin won't discolor .  Allow everything to dry.
6.  Mix at least two more ounces of resin (it might need more)
and pour it over the coaster.
7.  Pop bubbles with your lighter.

That's it!  Now you have some adorable coasters!

Thanks for stopping by!  Remember, Life's too short not to shimmer, so grab your glue gun and your glitter!™  Stay safe!

This week's coaster was inspired by the popular river tables.

You will need:

Saw (optional):  http://amzn.to/287gWrn
Wood stain:  http://amzn.to/287m8eW
Silly Putty:  http://amzn.to/1r4EeMQ
Packing tape:  http://amzn.to/22BrWsV
Dremel too (optional): http://amzn.to/1r4EBqE
Wood burning tool (optional):  http://amzn.to/1O74Yax

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Draw an outline, of the river, on the wood.
2.  Cut out the outline.
3.  Rough up the cut edge.  I used Dremel tool, but a wood burning tool would work great too.
4.  Stain the wood and allow to dry.
5.  Using packing tape, tape the two pieces of wood to the tape (sticky side up), to create the channel.  Turn it over and rub it, to make sure the tape has made good contact with the wood.
6.  Then run the wood along the back, running the opposite direction.
7.  Add Silly Putty to the open ends of the channel.  (See video).
8.  Mix one ounce of resin and mix in the blue pigment dye.
9.  Pour it into the channel you created.
10.  Carefully pop bubbles with your lighter.  Do not set your project on fire.  Remember you are working with wood.
11.  Allow to cure a minimum of 12 hours before removing the Silly Putty and the tape.

That's it!  Thanks for stopping by!  Remember:  Life's too short not to shimmer, so grab your glue gun and your glitter.TM

2.  Pour into the molds you will be using for the yolk.
3.  Pop bubbles with your lighter and allow to cure at least 12 hours.
4.  Unmold the yolks.
5.  Roll Silly Putty into a snake and on parchment paper, shape it into an outline of an egg.
6.  Mix three ounces of resin and add white pigment.  Mix well.
7.  Pour into the molds you made and use your lighter to pop any bubbles.  Allow to cure at least 12 hours.
8.  Remove the Silly Putty.
9.  Mix more resin.  I mixed three ounces, but I think I could have gotten away with less.
10.  Pour a little on each egg and use a paint brush to spread it all over the eggs.  Add more as needed.  This layer adds to the realism.
11.  Pop bubbles with lighter and allow to cure a minimum of 12 hours.
