Big Sea Turtle Art DIY | Coastal Decor | Craft Klatch

Learn how to create big artwork for your home!  It's easy and inexpensive art to match your home decor!  You can customize the art in both size and style, I just happened to go with a coastal decor theme and went with sea turtle art!

Here is a quick video tutorial, so you can see exactly how we made it:

The size will vary depending on the size of your wall and the design on your shower curtain.  I was going for maximum impact and it we made it approximately 61" x 61".  You can go square or rectangular.  The materials will be the same, you just need to customize it for you and your space!

The links below help support this channel,  as I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

You will need:
Shower curtain (choose any design that fits your decor):  https://amzn.to/2CNZeBZ
1" x 2":  Go to Home Depot
White flat sheet:  https://amzn.to/2CovKtF

Directions:

1.  Find a shower curtain with a design you like.  You do not want a plastic shower curtain.  You want a fabric/polyester type of shower curtain.

2.  Next you want to build a frame out of 1" x 2"s.  As I mentioned before, customize the size to your decor and design.  Cut the pieces to size.

We added support pieces to make sure the frame was square and sturdy.

3.  Glue and nail the frame together.

Ours ended up looking like this.

4.  Once we had the frame built, we realized the shower curtain fabric was a little thin and you could see the frame through it.  We decided to get an inexpensive white sheet and apply it to the frame first.  Another option would have been to paint the frame white.  We stapled it on and cut off the excess.

5.  We repeated the process with the shower curtain.  Take your time with the corners to make them neat.  You will want to cut off the excess.

This is what it looked like finished, but.....

6.  We were worried that it might get dirty and be hard to clean.  So, I used a sealer, to help protect it.  I thought it might make it stiffer, but it didn't seem to.  It also did not change the color.

I did several coats.

Here it is up!  It had just the impact that I wanted it to have and it brought some additional color to the room!  Double win!

That's it!  I hope you like it and give it a try!  Remember:  Life's too short not to shimmer, so grab your glue gun and your glitter!™  Stay safe!

DIY Sailboat Coasters | Another Coaster Friday | Craft Klatch

Learn how to create sailboat drink coasters!  It's an easy DIY craft tutorial!

Here is a quick tutorial, so you can see exactly how I made them!

The links below help support this channel,  as I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

1/4" Plywood:  https://amzn.to/2QtH9Nk
Ivory paint:  https://amzn.to/2CUrfJa

Directions:

1.  I traced the shapes onto 1/4" plywood.

2.  I cut them out.

3.  I sanded the edges.

4.  I painted all the parts and stained a dowel rod, for the mast.  If you use an outdoor paint, you should not need to seal them later.

5.  I put them together, using a clear drying glue.  TIP:  Working on wax paper prevents the pieces from sticking to your work surface.

Once dry, you have cute coastal coasters!

That's it!  Thanks for stopping by!  Remember:  Life's too short not to shimmer, so grab your glue gun and your glitter!™  Stay safe!

It's summer and what is more summer than the beach?  I had some left over sand, glitter and resin mixture and this is what it turned into:

This is a great opportunity to create a three dimensional scrapbook!  You can make one for each of your vacations.  Collect some sand and small shells (which are easier to find, but you never know what to do with them) and turn them into a cool home decor item and conversation piece!

You will need:

-  Coaster mold
-  Resin - I use Easy Cast (if you are looking for it internationally, go to www.eti-usa.com)
-  Small shells, sand dollar, starfish (you can buy a package at Hobby Lobby)
-  White glitter
-  Sand
-  Blue india ink

Here are some items from Amazon that you might find helpful:

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Prepare your resin, according to the package directions.
2.  Mix sand and white or clear glitter into the resin.  I add the glitter to the sand because when you mix sand with resin, it gets much darker.  The glitter lightens it up and as a bonus gives it some shimmer.  Make sure the mixture is REALLY thick.
3.  Put it into the coaster mold.  Don't have it go to the edges.
4.  Leave it sit for a little while and make sure it is sticky.  Begin pressing in your shells and other pieces.  If you are using a starfish or sand dollar, make sure you seal them first.  Use some Mod Podge and let them completely dry before adding them to the piece.
5.  Let it sit for a while.
6.  Mix a small amount of resin and add a small amount (a drop or two) of india ink.  Mix well.
7.  Carefully pour or drip the resin into the parts around the sand, where you didn't go to the edge.
8.  Allow to cure or at least sit for several hours.
9.  Prepare more resin and this time pour a clear coat over the top.  Make sure you made enough to create a level surface.  Remember the shells can be pretty tall.
10.  Allow to cure a minimum of 12 hours before unmolding.

That's it!  Thanks for watching and Happy Crafting!

Our friend, Joe, had dropped off an old wine holder and it was just screaming for a makeover!  I decided to take it from 90's grapes to beachy fun!

Here is how it turned out:

You will need:

-  Wine holder
-  Wire cutters
-  Parchment, blue and medium gray acrylic paint
-  Hot glue and glue that adheres to plastic
-  Faux sea glass resin piece
-  Primer that adheres to glass, metal and plastic
-  Thin gauge wire

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Remove the grapes and leaves off of the basket.
2.  Clean and dry.
3.  Prime entire piece.
4.  Using a paint brush, load half of the brush with parchment paper and half with gray.  Use both colors on one brush to streak the basket.
5.  Do the same on the handle, but use mostly gray.
6.  Allow to dry, then wire back together.
7.  Use a combination of hot glue and a Weldbond or The Ultimate glue to attach the faux sea glass piece.

That's it!  Now you have a perfect hostess gift!
