Big Sea Turtle Art DIY | Coastal Decor | Craft Klatch

Learn how to create big artwork for your home!  It's easy and inexpensive art to match your home decor!  You can customize the art in both size and style, I just happened to go with a coastal decor theme and went with sea turtle art!

Here is a quick video tutorial, so you can see exactly how we made it:

The size will vary depending on the size of your wall and the design on your shower curtain.  I was going for maximum impact and it we made it approximately 61" x 61".  You can go square or rectangular.  The materials will be the same, you just need to customize it for you and your space!

The links below help support this channel,  as I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

You will need:
Shower curtain (choose any design that fits your decor):  https://amzn.to/2CNZeBZ
1" x 2":  Go to Home Depot
White flat sheet:  https://amzn.to/2CovKtF

Directions:

1.  Find a shower curtain with a design you like.  You do not want a plastic shower curtain.  You want a fabric/polyester type of shower curtain.

2.  Next you want to build a frame out of 1" x 2"s.  As I mentioned before, customize the size to your decor and design.  Cut the pieces to size.

We added support pieces to make sure the frame was square and sturdy.

3.  Glue and nail the frame together.

Ours ended up looking like this.

4.  Once we had the frame built, we realized the shower curtain fabric was a little thin and you could see the frame through it.  We decided to get an inexpensive white sheet and apply it to the frame first.  Another option would have been to paint the frame white.  We stapled it on and cut off the excess.

5.  We repeated the process with the shower curtain.  Take your time with the corners to make them neat.  You will want to cut off the excess.

This is what it looked like finished, but.....

6.  We were worried that it might get dirty and be hard to clean.  So, I used a sealer, to help protect it.  I thought it might make it stiffer, but it didn't seem to.  It also did not change the color.

I did several coats.

Here it is up!  It had just the impact that I wanted it to have and it brought some additional color to the room!  Double win!

That's it!  I hope you like it and give it a try!  Remember:  Life's too short not to shimmer, so grab your glue gun and your glitter!™  Stay safe!

Easter Bunny Art DIY ~ Easter Crafts ~ Craft Klatch

Learn how to create a washi tape Easter Bunny DIY!!!  I made it in the Spring, for Easter, but it is actually perfect for a baby nursery and it doesn't have to be a bunny.

Here's a quick video tutorial, so you can see exactly how I made it!

The links below help support this channel,  as I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

You will need:
Document frame:  http://amzn.to/2tYBpnA
Scrapbook paper:  http://amzn.to/2IxHN8s
Washi tape:  http://amzn.to/2tYiid8
Cricut (Amazon):  http://amzn.to/2wChE2l
Cricut vinyls:  http://amzn.to/2w4DOJj

Directions:

1.  I found a bunny image, which I have linked above and I cut it out with my cutting machine.

However, you can also cut it out with your craft knife.

You can cut it out of different colored paper and glitter paper as well.

2.  When you cut out the image, it pops right out.

3.  I traced the shape onto a piece of white card stock.

4.  Then, I broke out my different washi tapes.

5.  I applied the washi tape over the outline and made sure I went well over the edge of the image.

I kept repeating the colors...

Until it was completely covered.

6.  You can change colors for different looks, moods or decor.

7.  I picked up an inexpensive frame from the dollar store and put my bunny into it.

8.  Once closed up, I flipped it over and glued on a pom pom, for a bunny tail!

So cute, whichever color you choose!

That's it!  Thanks for stopping by!  Remember:  Life's too short not to shimmer, so grab your glue gun and your glitter!™  Stay safe!

Wedding Box DIY ~ Wedding Crafts ~ Craft Klatch

Learn how to make a Mr and Mrs wedding box in this DIY craft tutorial!!!

Here is the video tutorial, so you can see exactly how I made it:
This blog contains affiliate links, for which I may receive a small commission, at no additional cost to you.

I made this as part of a wedding gift, for my nephew and his bride.  It was made with their wedding color (purple) and a washed out gray, because they had gotten married on the beach and it reminded me of driftwood.

This all came about, when my purse was filled with wedding confetti.  You can find that story on the Wedding Coasters post and the Wedding Paperweights!  I needed something to put the coasters in and I thought a personalized box would be nice.  They could use it any way they like.  They could use it as a jewelry box, or a catch all home decor item, perfect in their foyer for keys and such.

You will need:

Wood box:  http://amzn.to/2FJvOHb
Acrylic paint (be sure to use 3wedding colors):  http://amzn.to/2pmcWDa
Matte varnish:  http://amzn.to/2IA1P24
Sanding block:  http://amzn.to/2FH6Ic1
Cricut (Amazon):  http://amzn.to/2wChE2l
Cricut (Cricut site):  http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?B=993649&U=1248544&M=51766&urllink=

Cricut vinyls:  http://amzn.to/2w4DOJj

I found a beautiful wide satin ribbon at the craft store,
to finish it off.

Directions:

1.  I bought an unfinished box that was big enough to include the coasters and paperweights I wanted to put in it.

2.  I removed the hinges.

3.  The wedding color was purple, so I selected a combination of three purples.  They are all acrylic paint and one was metallic.

4.  I put all three colors on my brush and painted the box.  I don't mix the colors together.  I like the look of different colors blended together.

5.  While the paint was drying, I used my Cricut to cut Mr and Mrs out of vinyl.  I also did smaller cutouts for the inside.

6.  I put the vinyl onto the transfer tape and centered it on the box.

7.  I burnished it down, to make sure the vinyl was stuck to the box.

8.  I removed the transfer tape.

9.  I then used the same combo of purples and painted over the vinyl lettering.  I made sure I went in all directions.  I do this so if any paint should seep under the vinyl, it will be the purple, not the next color.  If it does seep under, you will never know!  Do this wherever you want lettering.

10.  I used a combination of gray and white acrylic paint and painted over the whole box.

11.  Once dry, I pulled off the vinyl.

The lettering came out crisp and perfect!

12.  I used a sanding block to sand some of the corners and give it a worn look.

Remember to give special attention to edges and corners, where you would normally see more wear and tear.

13.  I wiped off the dust and then finish off with a clear, matte varnish.  I suggest a minimum of two coats.

14.  I reattached the hinges.

15.  I added a single piece of purple confetti, since the confetti is what started this whole thing!

You can see the additional lettering I did on the inside.  It's a great opportunity to personalize it!

I added the coasters and the paperweights and it all coordinated.

That's it!  You could use this technique to make a larger box for the cards or other wedding decor or home decor items!
