Easy School of Fish | Woodworking DIY Projects | Beach Decor | Craft Klatch | How To

Let's make an easy woodworking project, with a tropical vibe!  It's a school of fish.  The shapes are basic and easy to cut out.  The project is inexpensive!

You will need:
-  3/4" plywood:  find it at your home improvement store
-  Acrylic paint:  pick fun colors for your decor
-  Drill with a 3/16" bit
-  3/16" dowel rods:  http://amzn.to/2lGILUO

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Draw a fish on a piece of paper or card stock and cut it out.

2.  Trace six fish onto the plywood and cut them out.

3.  Sand them.

4.  Drill holes into the bottom of the fish - the same size as your dowel rods.  Mine were 3/16".

5.  Cut out a freeform base, from the leftover plywood.

6.  Drill holes in the base, the same size as the dowel rods.

7.  Cut dowel rods to varying lengths.

8.  Paint them any colors you want.  I mixed a gray and oyster white for the top of the base.  I used a turquoise as a trim.  I painted the fish white, blue and turquoise, but be sure to customize them to your decor and style!

I used gray for the dowel rods and and a black dot for the eyes.

9.  Give everything a light sand for a distressed look.

10.  Put the fish on the sticks and the sticks in the base.

Now you have a cute fish sculpture!!

Ugly Christmas Sweater Coasters | Another Coaster Friday | DIY Project | Craft Klatch | How To

Here is my last holiday craft of the season!!!  What says Christmas more than an ugly sweater?

For the latest Subscribe:  http://www.youtube.com/craftklatch

You will need:
-  Wood - I used 1/8" birch plywood from the craft store (or cork, if you'd rather make a cork version)
-  Saw for wood or scissors for cork:  https://amzn.to/2PDtu8J
-  Acrylic paints:  https://amzn.to/2QcPtQU
-  Satin Mod Podge:  https://amzn.to/2DipdBT

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  I drew a template out of paper and then cut out wood, in the shape of a sweater - or you can use cork as an alternative.

2.  I painted one red and one green and then did the trim in the other color.  Expect to do two coats.

3.  When I painted the trim, I took a skewer stick and scraped into the paint, to give it the ribbing effect.

4.  Once dry, I painted a snow man on the green one, with snow falling.  I show you how I painted it in the video.

5.  On the red sweater, I painted a Christmas tree with presents underneath.  I also show you how in the video.  If you don't want to paint, you can always use stickers or decoupage images onto it.

6.  Once everything is dry, you need to seal it.  You can seal it with anything, but I used the satin Mod Podge.

That's it!  Easy and fun!!  It's a perfect kid's craft - if you cut out the shapes and/or use cork instead!

Time for a spooky Halloween coaster!  It's a Haunted House Coaster!  I used stickers to make this project.  The house was actually a paper sticker.  Because it was a layered sticker, it is almost impossible to seal it, so I didn't.  I figured if the paper areas became blotchy, it would add to the character of the old house.

You will need:
-  Coaster mold:  http://amzn.to/2e2Du81
-  Stickers:  http://amzn.to/2flbzSp
-  Chunky black glitter:  http://amzn.to/2dR2uf8
-  Fine silver glitter:  http://amzn.to/2fl9yWx
-  Transparent blue pigment:  http://amzn.to/2e2CwIR
-  Transparent purple pigment:  http://amzn.to/2dR69JE
-  Green acrylic paint in different shades

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Mix one ounce of resin, according to the package directions.  Add a little of the transparent purple pigment and a little of the transparent blue pigment.
2.  Mix in a little chunky black glitter and a little silver glitter.
3.  Pour into the coaster mold.
4.  Pop bubbles with your lighter and allow it to sit a minimum of 12 hours.
5.  Take the haunted house sticker and trip the corners, so it fits into the mold.
6.  Stick it down.
7.  Add the moon partially behind it.  I added glow paint to the moon, but that is completely optional.
8.  With a thin brush, brush some grass blades at the bottom, so the house doesn't look like it's floating in space.
9.  Once dry, mix one ounce of resin.  Drip it slowly over the paper house and let it soak in.  Pour the remainder slowly over everything.
10.  Slide the ghost in, partially behind the house and place the tombstone in front of the house.
11.  Pop bubbles with your lighter.  You will get A LOT of bubbles, so be sure to stay on it.
12.  Allow to cure for 12 hours.
13.  Come back and paint another layer of grass, this time covering the bottom of the house and the tombstone.
14.  Once dry, pour one more ounce of resin over all of it.
15.  Pop bubbles and allow to cure!

I happened to put it in the stand and put a light behind it.  You can see how I made the lighted base here:

That is it!  Happy Halloween and remember:

Wood and Resin Tree Coasters | DIY Project | Another Coaster Friday | Craft Klatch | How To

Today we are making tree coasters that are a combination of wood and resin.

You will need:
Wood disks (you can find them cheaper at Hobby Lobby):  http://amzn.to/2ebxJ8w
Polycrylic:  http://amzn.to/2dtKJSZ
Resin:  http://amzn.to/2e5PpRE
Resin pigment dye:  http://amzn.to/2edbwJJ
Packing tape:  http://amzn.to/2ez62oh

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Seal the wood disks with the Polycrylic.  I used a gloss.  Follow the directions on the can of the finish.  I did three coats and sanded between the coats.
2.  Once dry, line one side of the coasters with packing tape, making sure to rub it down, so it creates a good seal.
2. Mix resin, according to the package directions.
Tip:  Work is small batches, of resin otherwise it will set up before you are ready to use it all.
3.  Mix your pigment into the resin.  I did opaque brown for the tree trunks and limbs.  I used transparent colors for the leaves and apples.
4.  This process will take time and patience.  Drip the individual colors into the holes.  You can use your stir stick to drip, but you might want to use a toothpick for some of the smaller holes.
5.  Once everything is filled, run your lighter across it.  WARNING:  Remember you are working with wood.  Run the lighter across the resin areas quickly because you do not want to set your coasters on fire.
6.  Allow to cure a minimum of 12 hours.
7.  Pull the tape off the back of the coasters and that's it!!!

Now you have some stunning coasters!

Creepy Skeleton Candle Holders | DIY Project | Dollar Store Craft | Craft Klatch | How To | Halloween

I haven't done a dollar store project in a while, so Halloween sounded like it would be a great time to do one!  I went with a skeleton theme, which would also work great for a pirate party.

You will need:
-  Two votives:  http://amzn.to/2elWQn9
-  Here are the votives from Dollar Tree:  http://shrsl.com/lmj7
-  Two candlesticks - different heights
-  Six small plastic skeletons:  http://amzn.to/2dZxnUI
-  Gauzy fabric
-  Glue that will glue glass
-  Hot glue
-  Red nail polish:  http://amzn.to/2dUJL4D
-  Two battery operated votives
-  Various plastic bones (I took apart a leftover skeleton from a previous craft)
*I bought everything at the dollar store, so if you have one by you, be sure to check there!

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
I started out with items from Dollar Tree.

1.  Take nail polish and paint on the inside of the candlesticks.  Think blood smears.  Allow to dry.

2.  Glue together the candlesticks and the votives.

3.  Drip nail polish on the outside of the votives, starting at the top edge.  They should not all be exactly the same.  Allow to dry.

Keep dripping...

Let it dry and add some to the base.

4.  Take the gray or black gauze and glue and wrap it along the candlestick, using hot glue to attach it.  At the base,  cut off the excess gauze and glue on.

5.  Take the small skeletons and cut off the loops on the top of their heads.

With the twine they came with, tie them onto the stems of the candleholders.  You need three for each candleholder.

6.  Put a dab of glue on the back of their heads to just help keep them in place.

7.  I used leftover skeleton pieces from a project last year and I put them into the candleholders, with battery operated tea lights.

That's it!  Now you have a creepy, spooky set of candleholders!

Sphere mold (larger):  http://amzn.to/2bthYaG
Sphere mold (smaller):  http://amzn.to/2bDZpiE
Black pigment:  http://amzn.to/2dgobcE
Wire coat hanger :  look in your closet

Red multi-surface paint: http://amzn.to/2ddG6xH
Dremel tool:  http://amzn.to/2bO5a0r
Toothpicks:  http://amzn.to/2d87Rvv
Glue:  http://amzn.to/2d89fi2

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Mix resin, according to the package directions.
2.  Add black pigment and mix well.
3.  Pour into sphere molds.
4.  Allow to cure.
5.  Remove the cured resin from the molds.
6.  If necessary, trim off tabs with Dremel too, otherwise see video on how mine worked out.
7.  Drill a hole into both spheres.  Add toothpick and trim to size.  Add glue and insert toothpick into both drilled holes and push together until they touch.
8.  With a wire cutter, cut wire for 8 legs.  I used a coat hanger and painted the legs black.  If you can find black wire, use that instead.
9.  Bend legs a little bit.
10.  Drill 8 holes into the side of the larger charm.  Insert the legs with glue.
11.  Drill a hole in the top of the head to add an eye pin, with glue.
12.  Paint on two small red eyes with multi-surface paint.

That's it!  Thank you for stopping by!
