Brain Candleholder ~ Craft Klatch ~ Halloween DIY

I found a brain jello mold at the dollar store and decided to use it to make a brain candleholder for Halloween.  Halloween may be over for this year, but it's never too early to start planning for next year!

Here is the video tutorial, so you can see exactly how I made it!

Sphere mold (smaller):  http://amzn.to/2bDZpiE

11.  Drill a hole in the top of the head to add an eye pin, with glue.

I picked Hocus Pocus out of the fishbowl last week, so to go above and beyond, I went with a witch theme!

I'll run through all three, but here is the video first:

Hocus Pocus Coaster:

You will need:
-  Resin
-  Circle cutter (optional)
-  Ivory acrylic paint
-  Glow in the dark paint (optional)

Directions:
1.  Mix one ounce of resin, according to the package directions.
2.  Mix in black resin pigment.
3.  Pour into coaster mold.
4.  Use lighter to pop bubbles and let sit a minimum of 12 hours.
5.  In the mean time, print out your image on transparency film.
6.  Paint on the back side of the image with the acrylic paint - only behind the witches and the cauldron.
8.  Once dry, mix one ounce of resin and pour into coaster mold (on top of the black part that has cured).
9.  Slide in the image and press down with your stir stick, be sure to get out the trapped bubbles. Pop with lighter.
10.  Allow to cure.  Then unmold.

Witch Silhouette Coaster

You will need:
-  Coaster mold
-  Witch silhouette sticker
-  Yellow resin pigment
-  Resin

Directions:
1.  Mix one ounce of resin, according to the package directions.
2.  Mix in resin pigment and stir well.
3.  Pour into coaster mold.  Use lighter to pop bubbles.  Allow to cure a minimum of 12 hours.
4.  Apply sticker to cured resin.
5.  Mix one more ounce of resin and pour over sticker.
6.  Pop bubbles and allow to cure.  Then unmold!

Witch Felt Coaster
Coasters don't have to be clay, or concrete, or resin.  They can be felt too.  This is so fun!  You can get very creative and it's perfect for kid participation!  Who is to say you couldn't have a girls night built around making felt coasters!  After a few glasses of wine, I bet they would get extra good!

You will need:
-  Felt - green, black, purple, white, brown and yellow
-  Glue
-  Scissors
-  Paper punch (optional)

Directions:
1.  Cut out the shape of the head from the green felt.
2.  Cut out a large misshaped nose.
3.  Cut out a triangle for the hat.
4.  Cut out the brim of the hat.
5.  Cut out a thin strip for a hat sash.  (It's late while I'm writing this.  I know there is a better word that is currently eluding me....)
6.  Cut out brown strips for hair.
7.  Cut out yellow rectangles for teeth.
8.  Cut out a frown from the black felt.
9.  Cut out white circles for the eyes.
10.  I used a paper punch to do the pupils.  It worked surprisingly well.
11.  Glue the pieces together.

Once dry, that's it!

Now go make some coasters and have a Happy Halloween!  Stay safe and Happy Crafting!

DIY Dollar Store Skull Wall Hanging ~ Craft Klatch Halloween Series

Halloween is coming up quick, so I'm trying to get some Halloween crafts together.  I had a Dollar Tree skull leftover and everything else on hand to make this Halloween decoration!

You will need:
-  Plastic skull
-  Mod Podge (I used matte for the background and super gloss for the blood)
-  Acrylic paint (light gray, dark gray, black and red)
-  Glue
-  Fake spiders of varying sizes
-  Eyeballs
-  White spray paint/primer (must adhere to plastic)

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Paint the canvas with a very wet paint brush and streaks of light gray, dark gray and black paint.  Allow to dry.
2.  Using a Dremel tool (or other tool that will work), cut off the back of the skull, so it will lay flat on the canvas.
3.  Spray paint the skull white and allow to dry.  Add water to light gray and dark gray paint and paint on skull.  Immediately wipe off the paint.  This will tone down the whiteness of the skull.
4.  Glue skull to the painted canvas.  Allow to dry.
5.  Cut cheesecloth into strips.
6.  With black paint, paint the eyes and mouth of the skull.
7.  Using a combination of Mod Podge and gray and black paints, adhere the cheesecloth to the canvas and up the side of the skull.  You want it to be lumpy.
8.  I did two layers.  Allow to dry.
9.  With red paint, add some accents.  It can be nice and thick or thin, but is to look like blood.
10.  Glue on eyeballs.
11.  Add spiders of varying sizes.

That's it!  Now go hang up your one of a kind Halloween decoration!

Thanks for stopping by!  Stay safe and Happy Crafting!

Here is my last Halloween project for this year!  Happy Halloween Everyone!  I did some painting on a coaster.  It's hard to see in the picture, but because of the layers, it gives it a little bit of a 3D effect.

You will need:
-  Coaster mold
-  Resin (Easy Cast or Envirotex Lite both work great - for more info www.eti-usa.com)
-  Acrylic paint - green, light gray, dark gray, black, red and yellow
-  Chunky black glitter
-  Chunky blue glitter

Here are some items from Amazon that you might find helpful, incase you want to give it a try:

*****I have some good and news and bad news.  I have been linking the Silikomart mold to use for the coasters, since February.  Suddenly, the prices have increased dramatically.  That is the bad news.  Originally I used the Silikomart, over the Freshware because the Freshware had a matte finish, while the Silikomart had a glossy finish.  I recently needed to order a new mold myself and I ordered one of each.  The good and maybe GREAT news is that the Freshware mold now is glossy too and just over $10!  That makes it MUCH MORE AFFORDABLE!  Yay!  I've used mine once so far and so far I can't tell the difference!  I have the Freshware one linked above!

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Prepare your resin, according to the package directions.
2.  Mix in black glitter and just a little bit of blue.  I used chunky glitter.
3.  Pour into mold.
4.  Allow to cure for at least 12 hours.
5.  Once hardened, take some green acrylic paint and paint the grass line.
6.  Take both light and dark gray on your brush and paint the gravestone - you can add a little black paint if you need to darken it a little.
7.  With a skewer stick, add blades of grass.
8.  With a skewer stick - making dots - add R.I.P.
9.  With the end of the skewer stick, dip it in yellow paint and add a small moon in the distance.
10.  Again using the skewer stick, paint on a red bloody hand print that has been smeared.
11.  Allow everything to dry.
12.  Prepare some more resin and pour a topcoat to seal all the paint.
13.  Allow to cure and then unmold it!

That's it!  Thanks for stopping by and have a safe and happy Halloween!

Happy Crafting!

Here is another Halloween coaster!  I am going to keep with the Halloween theme for the month of October!

You will need:

-  Coaster mold
-  Masking tape
-  Resin (I used Easy Cast, but Envirotex Lite would work well too!)  Go to www.eti-usa.com for more info on both resins.
-  Two googly eyes
-  Permanent marker
-  White acrylic paint
-  Gray acrylic paint
-  Resin pigment dye - opaque black and opaque pearl white
-  Clear drying glue ( I used a super glue)

Here are some items from Amazon, which would help you, in case you want to give it a try:

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:

1.  Prepare your resin.  Add some black opaque pigment, until solid black.  Then add a little white pearl pigment, to brighten it just a tad.
2.  Pour into mold and let cure.
3.  Once hard, take masking tape strips and cover the resin, leaving an opening for the eyes.
4.  Take white acrylic paint, with just  a touch of gray, on a paint brush and paint the tape.  Carefully paint all the way to the edges of the resin.  Allow to dry.
5.  Glue on eyes.  Allow to dry.
6.  Take more masking tape and apply it slightly over eyes.  Do not rub down on the eye part because you want to be able to lift it away from the eyes when you are painting.  After you paint those strips and they dry, then you can rub them down.
7.  Take permanent marker and draw a simple mouth.  Allow to dry.
8.  Prepare more resin and pour it over the piece.  Be aware that you will have more bubbles than usual, because of the gaps in the tape.  Use a lighter or straw to remove the bubbles.
9.  Allow to cure before unmolding.

That's it!  Now you have a fun Mummy for Halloween!

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Crafting!
