Yay!  It's Friday again!  Today we are making sun catcher coasters.

You will need:

Coaster mold:  http://amzn.to/28TibDQ
Resin:  http://amzn.to/28PB5MI
Glass:  http://amzn.to/28PgbsR
Tissue paper:  http://amzn.to/28ZhQgD
India ink: http://amzn.to/28ZhQgJ

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Mix four ounces of resin, according to the package directions.
2.  For the flower coaster, cut five petals out of tissue paper and a middle circle in a different color.
3.  Pour approximately one ounce of resin into the mold.
4.  Place the petals and middle into the resin and gently press down with your stir stick.  Use your lighter to pop the bubbles.
5.  Pour one ounce of resin into a cup and add pieces of stained glass.
6.  Place the pieces into the coaster mold.  If needed, add more resin to the mold to level off the coaster.  Pop bubbles with lighter.
7.  Lastly, pour remaining resin into four small cups.  Add different colors of india ink.  I used red, yellow, blue and white.  Mix well.
8.  Pour all the colors into the mold and mix them a little, to give it a swirly pattern.  Pop bubbles with lighter.

Allow them to cure for at least 12 hours before unmolding.

That's it!  Here's a tip:  Use vibrant tissue paper for the flower.  Lighter tissue paper turns almost transparent.

DIY Lollipop Christmas Coaster Set - Another Coaster Friday!

The best way to stay on top of my latest crafts is to
subscribe to my

I know I'm late getting this up!  It was actually done on time, but I didn't get the video edited quick enough.  So, this is a Saturday edition of Another Coaster Friday!!

I  decided to do a set for the holidays and I wanted something fun.  What could be funner than lollipops?!?!?!?!

You will need (affiliate links):
-  Red polymer clay:  https://amzn.to/2EAAKx1
-  Green polymer clay:  https://amzn.to/2UOn9qV
-  White polymer clay:  https://amzn.to/2EAI7EJ
-  Piece of scrap 2" x 4":
-  Red ribbons:  https://amzn.to/2rK4Aqw
-  White dimensional paint:  https://amzn.to/2UQdekJ
-  Skewer stick:  https://amzn.to/2EB6lii
-  Stencils:  https://amzn.to/2rIjwoT
-  White glitter:  https://amzn.to/2CkY939
-  Red acrylic paint:  https://amzn.to/2S8Gilx
-  White acrylic paint:  https://amzn.to/2EyNCnz
-  E6000 glue:  https://amzn.to/2QFngGA

Here are some of the items available through Amazon, incase you want to give it a try:

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:
1.  Take a half of the white clay and knead it until it is soft.  Then, roll it into a snake and set aside.

2.  Repeat with the red clay.

3.  Put the red and white lay next to each other and gently squeeze them together.  You are trying to combine them to make a rope.

4.  Roll the clay and twist it.  Roll and twist until you get the desired effect and it looks similar to a candy cane.  You are going to need a good amount of working space because you need a long snake.

5.  Once you get it to the desired length, trim off the imperfect ends.  Begin to coil it.  You are now making the coaster.  While you are coiling it, remember to gently squeeze it together and gently press it down.  You don't want any gaps, or it won't be a very effective coaster.  You want it somewhat flat so a glass will sit steady on it.

6.  Once you reach the end, pinch the end to a point and then finish the lollipop.  It will give it more of a tapered end.

7.  Take your skewer stick and gently insert it into the clay.  Use a drilling motion and gently insert it until you reach  close to the center.  Repeat with remaining red clay and green clay.  Put them on a pan lined with parchment paper and pop them in the oven.  Bake according to the clay package directions.

8.  In the meantime, drill holes into the wood, so you can later insert the skewer sticks.  Cut the skewer sticks to the desired lengths.  Paint the skewer sticks white.

9.  Paint the block of wood red.

10.  Stencil or decorate the block of wood as you wish.  I used a J and a Y stencil with a snowman in between to make it look like JOY.  You can use stickers or anything you would prefer.

11.  Insert the skewer sticks in the holes.  Put the clay lollipops on the sticks.  I inserted the skewer sticks, with the pointy end in the base.  Take the dimensional white paint and paint the block to look like snow has fallen on it.

12.  While wet, sprinkle with glitter, to give it and icy effect.

13.  The block of wood was kind of wobbly, so I also made four white balls out of clay, baked them, glued them onto the base and added the paint and glitter.  Add ribbons.  I put a dab of hot glue on the ribbon, to help keep it in place.

Now you have a festive and fully functional coaster set.  Just take the lollipop head off  and use as a coaster.  When you are done, put it back.  The sticks always stay in the base.  Polymer clay is non-porous, so you don't need to seal it.  If you did want a shiny effect, I would suggest painting it with resin, because that will give it a durable finish.

That's it!  Thanks for stopping by!  Happy Holidays!  Remember:  Life's too short not to shimmer, so grab your glue gun and your glitter!™  Stay safe!

I wanted to do a little more experimenting with the ink and here is what happened:

You will need:

-  Ink
-  Coaster mold
-  Resin (If you are looking for Easy Cast internationally, go to www.eti-usa.com)
-  Mold Release (optional)

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:

1.  Prepare your resin according to the package directions.
2.  Split the resin into three separate cups.
3.  Add a small amount of ink into each of the cups (red, yellow and blue).
4.  Pour the resin into the coaster mold.
5.  Using a toothpick, swirl the colors into one another, until you get the desired effect.
6.  Allow to sit for at least 12 hours.
7.  Unmold.
**You can always add a second layer, if you think the coaster is going to be too thin, but do it before unmolding it.

That's it!  Thanks for stopping by!

Swirled Resin Coaster Craft Tutorial

I have been experimenting with swirling acrylic paint in resin.  Here are two coasters I have completed:

I think they turned out okay, but I think I can do better!

I made the first one by mixing metallic acrylic paint into resin I had separated into small cups and then I poured it into the mold and swirled it.  Three things that would have made it better:

1.  I would have skipped the silver.  It ended up just looking gray.

2.  My red got really thick, really fast.  I have no explanation as to why that happened.

3.  I found parchment paper's Kryptonite!  Parchment paper can withstand hot glue and resin, but like the Wicked Witch of the West, water will kill it!  I dripped water into the center of my mold and parchment paper wrinkled.  (Took me a while to figure out what I did wrong!)  The wrinkles must have broken the seal and some of the resin leaked out.  Lesson learned!

To make the second, I poured the resin into the mold and let it sit for awhile.  But I let it sit too long and it was too thick, so it didn't swirl very smoothly.  The reason I let the resin harden is because when I have tried to do this before, I put the resin in the mold and immediately poured in the paint.  The resin was still too thin and the paint sank to the bottom.  My logic was to let the resin thicken and then put in the paint, but I guess timing is everything and mine was a little off.  Oh well.

If you want to give it a try... and I will try again.... here are the directions for the first coaster:

You will need:

-  Coaster mold (I will attach the video and how I made mine..... sans water...)
-  Resin - I use Easy Cast
-  Acrylic paint in varying colors
-  Skewer stick to swirl

Here is the video tutorial:

Directions:

1.  Prepare your mold
2.  Prepare your resin according to the package directions
3.  Split your resin into small cups - the number of colors you plan on using determines how many cups you will need
4.  Mix in your acrylic paint colors
5.  Pour the different colors into your mold and use a skewer stick to swirl them together
6.  Let sit for 12 hours
7.  Pour a thin clear layer of resin over the swirled resin and let sit for 12 hours before unmolding

That's it!  Thanks for stopping by and Happy Crafting!
